چکیده

Prediction models are at the heart of modern acoustic engineering and are used in a diverse range of applications from refining the acoustic design of classrooms and concert halls to predicting how noise exposure varies through an urban environment. They also allow Auralisation to be performed for buildings and spaces before they are built or long after they are lost. Current commercial room acoustic simulation software almost exclusively approximates the propagation of sound geometrically as rays or beams. These assumptions yield efficient algorithms, but the maximum accuracy they can achieve is limited by how well the geometric assumption represents sound propagation in a given space. This compromises their accuracy at low frequencies in particular. Methods that directly model wave effects are more accurate but they have a computational cost that scales with problem size and frequency, effectively limiting them to small or low frequency scenarios. This paper will report the results of ongoing research into a new algorithm which aims to be accurate and efficient for all frequencies; the name proposed for this is the “Wave Matching Method”. This builds on the Boundary Element Method with the premise that if an appropriate interpolation scheme is designed then the model will become ‘geometrically dominated’ at high frequencies. Other propagation modes may then be removed without significant error, yielding an algorithm which is accurate and efficient. This paper will present the general concepts of the algorithm and progress to date. PACS no. 43.20.Rz, 43.20.Fn

Implementation of an adaptive burst DQPSK receiver over shallow water acoustic channel

In an environment such as underwater channel where placing test equipments are difficult to handle, it is much practical to have hardware simulators to examine suitably designed transceivers (transmitter/receiver). The simulators of this kind will then allow researchers to observe their intentions and carry out repetitive tests to find suitable digital coding/decoding algorithms. In this p...

Model synthesis for band-limited speech recognition

A recognizer trained with full-bandwidth speech performs badly when recognizing band-limited speech because of environment mismatch. In this paper, we have proposed a novel model synthesis method for band-limited speech recognition. It detects speech bandwidth automatically and synthesizes a new acoustic model only using a full-bandwidth model when the bandwidth has been changed. Experiments co...

Acoustic Model Identification Using Inverse Model

Sound measured at various points around the environment can be evaluated by a series of multi-pole sources and their acoustic strength can be acquired. In this numerical study, a method, called the inverse method, was examined to achieve this goal. A variety of arrangements of different sources were considered and the acoustic strength of these sources was acquired. Through the application of t...

Effect of Underwater Ambient Noise on Quadraphase Phase-shift Keying Acoustic Sensor Network Links in Extremely Low Frequency Band

This study evaluates the impact of underwater ambient noise using seven real noise samples; Dolphin, Rain, Ferry, Sonar, Bubbles, Lightning, and Outboard Motor in three frequency ranges in extremely low frequency (ELF) band. The ELF band is the most significant bandwidth for underwater long-range communication. ELF band which is extended from 3 to 3000 Hz clearly, faces bandwidth limitation. Me...

Blood Brain Barrier Disruption by Focused Ultrasound and Microbubbles: A Numerical Study on Mechanical Effects

Introduction: Microbubbles are widely used as contrast agent in diagnostic ultrasound. Recently they have shown good potential for applications in the therapeutic field such as drug delivery to the brain. Recent studies have shown focused ultrasound in conjunction with injected micro-bubbles could temporarily disrupt blood-brain barrier and let therapeutic agents transport into...
